What You Can Learn From… Novak Djokovic’s Defeat of Roger Federer
Davis Cup champion Novak Djokovic defeated defending champion and world #2 Roger Federer in three scintillating sets 7-6(3), 7-5, 6-4. The level of tennis played tonight on Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, Australia was simply championship quality. Two great competitors slugged it out point after point with each desperately trying to control the style of play. Federer attempted to continue his aggressive play as of recent times and Nole did his best to absorb the variety of the great Federer arsenal. At the same time when given the the opportunity Djokovic capitalized on his chances thumping big forehands and backhands as well as reaching back for huge serves in the most pressure filled moments.
All of us have a lot to gain by watching tennis at this level. The world class play narrows the margins of victory to just a few points and ultimately the most disciplined and relentless player came through with the victory. Nole stuck to his game plan and he limited the peaks and valleys in his play. When posed with a problem, Djokovic had a solution for each situation. Each time the solution was centered around the strengths of Djokovic’s strongest abilities, speed, anticipation, and power.
