ChiChi’s Preview & Prediction for Wawrinka v. Querrey
ChiChi’s Preview & Prediction for Wawrinka v. Querrey
by ChiChi, GEM Tennis (24-10 on GEM)
Stan played great on Sunday no doubt. He made Murray work hard those first 2 sets and then pulled ahead comfortably. I don’t want to take anything away from him because Stan is a true professional, however something just wasn’t right with Murray physically. Today, as I was walking through the park mulling over my student’s 6-3 7-6 loss, a Brit asked me for directions to the Box office/will call because Andy Murray left him some tickets. Since I was walking that way we got to talking and the man told me he ate with him last nite and Andy admitted to him that he woke up with a swollen neck and lethargy and was even surprised that he could hang in there for as long as did in the match. He said he felt bad for Andy because the papers in England are crucifying him right now. This gets me to thinking that maybe Stan’s win wasn’t as great as it appeared. So here comes Sam Querrey who has loads of confidence, a big serve, big groundies and is not afraid to use them against a real solid competitor in Stan Wawrinka who may not be playing as well as he thinks. I expect a confident and hungry Querrey to out slug and out serve Wawrinka on these quick courts and win in a semi convincing 4 setter something along the lines of 64 64 46 63.
Prediction: Querrey over Wawrinka 6-4, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.
ChiChi is now an outstanding 24-10 since joining the GEM Tennis team.

Absurd analysis. Murray was hurt and Wawrinka was not? The reality was that Wawrinka was the better player all around – on net approach conversions, first serve placement and, most importantly, on breakpoint conversions. Wawrinka may be the rated underdog against Querrey but is a far superior all court player compared to the one dimensional Querrey. Wawrinka will beat him four sets today
Good call Vijay. It was tighter match than we both expected but Stan found a way. That first set was key to Querreys chances of perhaps gaining some momentum and imposing his big and slightly more than one dimensional game on Wawrinka. It didnt happen and came back to bite him in the ……
