Harrison versus Stakhovsky
I’m stubborn. Don’t get me wrong I believe Harrison is a promising young player. He can hit a few powerful serves, but is not a big server yet, can hit off the ground very well, but not overwhelming, is very tenacious and is in good shape. All those attributes were good enough to take out former world #3 Ivan Ljubicic. I wouldn’t have been shocked if Harrison took a set, but to win against such an experienced player in his first grand slam main draw match definitely was a surprise. Looking at it closer, Ljubicic was ripe for the picking. He hadn’t played a match in quite a while and it was very hot, but that is no excuse, Harrison kicked his butt. Bad pick on my part. Now for some redemption. Stakhovsky is on fire. He won the pilot pen last week and got through a very quick and hard charging Peter Luczak in 4 sets. He has very solid serve, some powerful groundstrokes with the ability to change pace with a nifty slice backhand and is in great playing shape right now. He is more experienced than Harrison and is just as hungry. Harrison will be up for the challenge and the crowd will be rooting for the youngster, but I dont think it will be enough. I’m going to cover myself and give Harrison a set, but I’m not 100% positive he gets one. Stakhovsky 67 64 63 63.
Prediction: Stakhovsky over Harrison 6-7, 6-4, 6-3, 6-3
