New York, US Open — Serbian Janko Tipsarevic defeated American #1 Andy Roddick in the second round of the US Open. The Serb amassed 66 winners to just 30 unforced errors while serving 16 aces into his 3-6, 7-5, 6-3, 7-6(4) victory. This is Tipsarevic’s second victory over Roddick in a grand slam (Wimbledon) and his first time into the third round in New York.
Tipsarevic displayed an energetic performance with a perfect blend of big serving and timely shot making. He continually made tactical adjustments to Roddick’s efforts and in the end he was the better player tonight.
Roddick looks forward to some time off to recover from mono and to also regroup and train his offensive game a little more. He played much of the match on Tipasarevic’s terms and that will never bode well in the end. Roddick needs to find his ‘blend’ of offensive, neutral, and defensive tennis while continually serving big. He sometimes gets too caught up in playing in one style, similar to the issues Andy Murray has had. These guys need to learn to take it to certain players when it’s necessary and they need confidence to do that. For Roddick that comes through hard work, something he has been unable to do in his battle to recover from mono.
Enjoy the exciting action during Day 4 of the US Open!
