Roddick Cruises On His 28th Birthday

New York: US Open — American Andy Roddick advances easily into the second round in straight sets over Frenchman Stephane Robert. “Solid” was the word that Roddick used to assess his performance and that is exactly what he accomplished today on his 28th birthday. When asked about his form compared to Indian Wells (finalist) and Miami (champion), Roddick simply explained his success at that time. A high first serve percentage and a constriction of unforced errors from his ground game. “Sometimes its about the numbers,” he said. The biggest noticeable change from Roddick is that he has switched his strings to a hybrid of natural gut and the Babolat polyester RPM blast, which is the same string used by Rafael Nadal.

Roddick now looks forward to continuing his improvement through the tournament. He plays the winner of Tipsarevic and Rochus in round 2.
