Rafa Wins 2nd Wimbledon Title
Rafael Nadal defeated first time grand slam finalist Tomas Berdych 6-3, 7-5, 6-4 in a less than thrilling championship match. Rafa was clearly the better player today, continually mixing up the pace, spins, and placement of his shots. He disrupted big Berdych’s ability to use his penetrating powerful shots by continually keeping him off balance. Berdych managed to stay competitive in the match because of his serve, but he was unable to break Rafa’s serve despite break point opportunities. The difficulty for Berdych was clear, Rafa’s level of play doesn’t decline much. The fact that Berdych was competing in his first grand slam final in addition to facing Nadal proved to be too much for him to handle. Nadal has been absolutely brilliant the past few months and hopefully he’ll be able to continue his form at the end of the summer in New York. Congratulations to Rafa!
