CORY PARR: FIRST POST

Cory Parr
Hi, everyone. Blogging is somewhat of a new experience for me. However I’ve found it to be a good way to reflect on what I have done and what I am doing. I am currently at home in New York after having been on the road for a couple of weeks. My first tournament as a professional was in Rochester New York. There I lost in the second round of singles, but topped off the tournament on a good note by winning the doubles. I then drove about 4 hours to Pittsburgh for my next tournament.
Things did not go so well in Pittsburgh, as I lost in the first round of singles and did not compete in doubles. All in all, I think it was an OK start to my first couple of tournaments; however I know that I have a really tough road ahead of me, and there is a lot of work to be done in order to become successful playing tennis. (Just a side note, I made a huge $650 for 2 weeks of work which results in a loss of money after I pay for flights, hotels, food and a rental car.) I definitely need to try and budget my money better!
Right now I am home in New York for about a week and a half training to get ready for the next couple of tournaments. If there is one thing I have learnt, it is that training is a huge part to the success of a tennis player. The game has gotten so physical and it is obvious that hitting a good tennis ball alone will not make you successful on tour. So everyday, I not only try and hit for a few hours, but I also go to the gym to lift and run. Being a professional tennis player is a full time job. Professional tennis players spend all day training and developing their bodies. Working on my body is something that I need to focus on everyday. This does not only include running and lifting, but also what I put into my body. I need to eat the right foods and live a disciplined lifestyle that will help me succeed on court. Everyone has
different things that they need to work on, but some of the things that I need to do are get stronger and more flexible. So for the past week and a half while I have been home I have been trying to really focus on going to the gym to lift, run and stretch. Tomorrow, July 19th, I will be leaving on a flight for Joplin Missouri for my next tournament. That is all for now, but I will post again when I am in the greatest city in
the US, Joplin!!!
