WIMBLEDON: AN UNFINISHED GEM

There’s great tennis going on at Wimbledon between Croatian Marin Cilic and German Tommy Haas. After 4 hours and 2 minutes, play has been suspended between the two competitors. After being down two sets to love, Cilic fought his way back into the match firing 26 aces and 91 winners. He even went as far as being up a break twice in the fifth and after squandering those opportunities he had another chance to close the match at 6-5 in the fifth with two match points on Haas’ serve. Haas was fighting for his life in this year’s Wimbledon and Cilic was looking to put himself through to the round of 16. The 31 year old Haas was determined to continue his campaign at this years Wimbledon and he played with a balanced fire in saving the two match points. The tennis was played at an extremely high level and even the paying fans of Wimbledon, who wanted to see a conclusion, stood to applaud these two spectacular warriors as they walked off the court. The Wimbledon patrons showed a great appreciation to the young 20 year old Cilic and also to the weary veteran Haas. I don’t believe I’ve ever seen a roar like that for a match that was yet to be finished. The people applauded great tennis and with that, the players will return tomorrow to hopefully produce a magical ending.

In other matches, Serbian Novak Djokovic dominated American Mardy Fish 6-4, 6-4, 6-4. Djokovic was playing passive in earlier rounds, but today he produced some of the best aggressive tennis we’ve seen from him this year. In another third round matchup, Ivo Karlovic of Croatia served 46 aces in knocking the ninth seed Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 7-6 (7-5), 6-7 (5-7), 7-5, 7-6 (7-5). It’s always difficult to find a rhythm against the 6′ 10″ (208 cm) Karlovic and it wasn’t easy for the Tsonga. I believe the picture below says it all.
