ROLAND GARROS: THE AMERICAN DREAM?
Andy Roddick defeated Frenchman Marc Giquel in dominating fashion 6-1, 6-4, 6-4. With the help of Coach Larry Stefanki, Roddick is having his best run of his career at the French Open. Encouraging Roddick to shed excess weight in this past off season has clearly helped Roddick move quite well at Roland Garros this year. Its not only the weight that has helped, it’s also been that his expectations are very low and he’s just trying to get through each and every match. In his next match he faces another Frenchman Gael Monfils, who was a 6-2, 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 winner over Austrian Jurgen Melzer. It’ll obviously be a partisan Parisian crowd and a great challenge for Roddick to come through. If the weather stays warm and dry look for Roddick to pull off the upset. Monfils has a habit of playing very defensive and if Roddick’s shots are moving quickly through the court it could spell great danger for the athletic Frenchman.
Prediction: Roddick in five. If you can get this match on tv or on the internet (The Tennis Channel) you’re in for a treat.
Can Roddick continue his stellar play on the clay courts of Paris?
