ROLAND GARROS: FEDERER — NOW YOU SEE HIM, NOW YOU DON’T
Roger Federer defeated the 45th ranked player in the world from Argentina Jose Acasuso today in the second round of the French Open 7-6(8), 5-7, 7-6(2), 6-2. Federer survived a complete loss of concentration towards the end of the second set through the middle of the third set. Roger was down 1-5 in the third before he stormed back and showed flashes of his great talent. When in form in this match Federer used great variety to keep the big Argentinean off balance. However, the part of the match where he disappeared was eerily similar to episodes of concentration lapses earlier in the year, particularly in big moments. He continually was caught out of position and he was framing forehand after forehand. Somehow he recovered, but that is something he’s going to have to squeeze out of his game in order to have a shot at winning this elusive title. Federer has some work to do between the ears. Next he faces the winner of Mathieu from France or Andujar from Spain. Both players will make him hit many shots in order to win points and both players will be a great test to see exactly where Federer’s level is. If Federer can clean up the next round in dominating fashion …. Look out!
